By interpolating video data using proprietary algorithms, SD format data is up-converted to 1080x1920p HD format video data. This conversion to HD format increases the richness of the original data by approximately six fold, and produces the highest possible image quality when viewing content on a large-screen HDTV. It features a built-in 250GB hard disk drive that will provide an additional recording capability of up to 440 hours (in EP mode). Its built-in digital tuner also allows you to watch all standard free to air digital channels.

The Panasonic DMR-EX83 is technically a very competent machine, but the price seems too high given that it has only a 250GB hard drive. We like the way this machine works though, and its picture quality is second to none
