The Nikkor DX 16-85mm VR is a general-purpose lens for owners of Nikon's DX-format bodies. It features Vibration Reduction to combat camera shake, quick and quiet SWM focusing which works on all DX-format Nikon bodies, and a 24-128mm equivalent range that zooms wider than any existing general-purpose model in the range. It's this wide coverage that makes the DX 16-85mm VR really special, but the question is how it performs in practice and whether it's sufficiently better than the existing kit lenses or the eternally popular DX 18-200mm VR.
